Those designated to be the chefs, bakers, and, well, the folks who bring store-bought goods to round out a good Thanksgiving feast will want to do their shopping sooner rather than later. Just a heads up, only one major grocery store chain is expected to be open on Thanksgiving Day – and just for a portion of the day.

Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Target will all be closed on Thursday, November 24 in observance of Thanksgiving 2022. That leaves only H-E-B, Whole Foods Market, and Sprouts Farmers Market for your down-to-the-wire, last-minute shopping

H-E-B will be open from 6 a.m. to noon, though the chain’s pharmacies will not be open at all. Whole Foods Market, which has one location at the Alamo Quarry Market and another at Blanco Road and Loop 1604, will welcome shoppers from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. Sprouts Farmers Market, which has three locations in the San Antonio area, will stay open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As far as smaller stores with limited options, Big Lots stores will be open from 7 a.m. to midnight, Dollar General from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Family Dollar from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you miss your grocery shopping on Thursday, you can always stop by the San Antonio restaurants open and ready to serve you this holiday.
