ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas – The emergency medical services director for Atascosa County faces a charge of official oppression, Texas Rangers paperwork obtained Monday by KSAT shows.
Donald Penny, 55, was suspended with pay on Jan. 9, the same day a warrant was issued for his arrest, the Pleasanton Express previously reported.
Officials have so far been tight lipped and have not released details of the allegations against Penny.
Penny did not respond to an email seeking comment Monday and a cellphone listed for him in public records had been disconnected.
Official oppression occurs when a public servant acting under the color of his or her office mistreats another person or impedes that person’s rights.
Penny surrendered to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office last month after the warrant was issued for his arrest.
Atascosa County Judge Weldon Cude did not respond to a phone call seeking comment Monday on Penny’s current status.
The county is conducting its own investigation of Penny, the paper previously reported.
