Boil water notice issued for some New Braunfels customers; water station now open

Customers’ pressure in the Riverchase Pressure Zone has fallen below 20 psi due to an electrical outage.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A boil water notice has been issued for customers in the New Braunfels area.

The New Braunfels Utilities issued the notice to NBU customers within the Riverchase Pressure Zone.

Officials say the pressure of the system within this area has fallen below 20 psi due to an electrical outage. New Braunfels Utilities is working to restore the water pressure.

New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) has now opened a water station for folks impacted by the boil water notice.

You can go to the Gruene United Methodist Church – Mission and Outreach building at 2629 East Common Street. You are asked to enter from Common Street and exit onto Old FM 306.

They have bottled water and you can get up to 12 bottles per household.

Bring your own container (up to five gallons) to their water station for filling.

They have a route marked for you when you arrive at the location to let you know which way to go.

Water station will be open Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or until further notice.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact NBU at (830) 608.8971.

Due to the loss of system pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires New Braunfels Utilities to notify their customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.).

Officials say children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

  • To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
  • In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
  • When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

We will update this story when the boil water notice has been rescinded.
