Column: New buildings and programs at Palo Alto College is part of its commitment to educating the South Side

SAN ANTONIO — This coming year holds many exciting higher education updates on the horizon for Palo Alto College (PAC) and our South Side community.

For the past 30-plus years, PAC has been dedicated to keeping up with the changing demands of the workforce and PAC continues to uphold that mission today.

Coming this Spring, PAC’s new Rio Grande Building will provide education and training to more than 800 manufacturing students over five years and will offer opportunities for students to build new skills in high-wage, high-demand fields such as welding, logistics, nursing, and dental hygiene to name a few.

The addition of the Rio Grande building will not only be a shining star for the campus — and the Southside community — but also the services it will house align with the Alamo Colleges District’s focus on providing workforce credentials to be responsive to local and national challenges.

The Alamo Colleges is ready to help San Antonio families remove financial barriers that deter anyone from entering higher education and those efforts start from birth to adulthood.

PAC’s Educate South movement is ensuring there is a college-going culture among children of all ages; the Alamo Colleges is helping San Antonio adults remove financial barriers to higher education through being one of four selected partners part of the City of San Antonio’s Ready to Work program; and AlamoPROMISE is paving the way for high school students to get access to higher education by providing tuition-free education.

This is truly an exciting time to consider joining the PAC and the Alamo Colleges District family as we continue fulfilling our mission of empowering our students and community for leadership and success.
