Deputy shoots and kills man who attacked him with a knife, BCSO says

The deputy is recovering in the hospital after suffering some facial injuries that are going to require stiches, according to Salazar.

SAN ANTONIO — According to BCSO Sheriff Javier Salazar, one man was shot and died on the far north side of Bexar County after a confrontation that also sent a BCSO deputy to the hospital early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at the 8700 block of Versant Bluff around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

BCSO says a man assaulted some family members in their home when an off-duty federal agent went to confront the man who he believed was armed and tried to de-escalate the situation.

When the BCSO deputy arrived on scene the man assaulted the deputy in front of the residence leaving the deputy with cuts and other physical injuries to his face, Salazar said.

The deputy tried to taze the man but was unsuccessful. The man then came towards the deputy cutting his face before the deputy shot the man, Salazar says. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, officials say.

The deputy is now recovering in the hospital after suffering multiple facial injuries to require stitches, according to Salazar. One family member in the home was also left with injuries.

A knife was recovered at the scene by BCSO.
