Diwali SA launched in 2009 as the local version of an ancient Indian festival dating back more than 2,000 years. Each year, the festival of lights and culture brings in thousands of visitors to celebrate the sister-city relationship between San Antonio and Chennai, India.

Like most events, Diwali made a virtual pandemic pivot in 2020, but resumed with its normal format in 2021.
