As the City of Boerne continues to see people moving into Kendall County, retail stores are looking to give the community more shopping options. Dollar General will soon begin construction on a new store at the end of December, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.

The construction is expected to begin on December 19 with a completion date of April 15, 2023, according to the filing. The scope of the work includes “new ground up retail food establishment/grocery store.” The 10,640-square-foot Dollar General will cost $1.2 million to build. It will be located at 289 FM Boerne, TX 78006.

Dollar General has been moving into the Hill Country with an additional store beginning construction in Bandera this month, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.

Down the road in Kerrville, the Dollar General brand is adding one of its other stores to the city. The new store, pOpshelf, focuses on home decor, arts and crafts, outdoor goods, toys, and more, according to a MySA report. Most of the items in the store will cost customers $5 or less. There are now 30 pOpshelf stores in six states.

Dollar General created the pOpshelf brand in fall 2020. The report states that the company’s new brand is focused on women who earn $50,000 to $125,000. By the end of 2022, pOpshelf will open 100 stores, according to the report.
