Driver in Seguin fatally shot in exchange of gunfire with officers, police say

SEGUIN, Texas – Officers with the Seguin Police Department shot and killed a driver who they say refused to comply during a traffic stop and then fired upon them early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. in the area of North State Highway 123 Bypass and Mockingbird Lane, located in Seguin.

According to police, officers tried to pull over a white Suzuki SX4 for a traffic stop that had three people inside. That’s when, police say, the vehicle instead fled from officers before finally stopping in the area of South Milam and Live Oak.

Police said two of the passengers from inside the vehicle followed the commands of officers, however, the driver refused to comply.

The passengers told police the driver had a weapon and negotiators attempted to talk around 3 a.m., but the talks were ultimately unsuccessful.

At some point around 4:45 a.m., shots were fired for an unknown reason between the driver and officers. The driver was shot and killed, police said.

Officials with the Seguin Police Department say the shooting is now an active investigation and that further details will be released.

The identity of the person killed was not given and will be announced later once next of kin is notified, police said.
