A group of teachers at a north San Antonio elementary school have tested positive for COVID-19, though the school staff did not alert the community at large.

All kindergarten teachers at Kinder Ranch Elementary, part of Comal ISD, tested positive, according to a report from mycanyonlake.com. The COVID-19 cases were confirmed and news was shared on Open Comal Schools Safely, a Facebook page dedicated to updates on the school district.

A screenshot shared on the page September 1 shows an email from an unnamed Kinder Ranch teacher encouraging wearing a mask at the school following the positive cases. Kinder Ranch Elementary is located near U.S. 281 and Bulverde Road.

Comal ISD does not currently require students or staff to wear masks.

The Canyon Lake news website also spoke to a Kinder Ranch parent who volunteers at the school and asked to remain anonymous. She says the Kinder Ranch parents have relied on each other for information due to a lack of communication from school officials. The parent also says this update came from another parent of a kindergarten student, not the district.

Comal ISD did not respond to MySA’s request for comment.

District officials reportedly post a daily count of active cases at each school. However, this number is only based on cases reported by parents and staff.

In addition to the positive cases among kindergarten teachers, a third grade teacher is currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications, the parent says.
