Hispanic Heritage Month is around the corner – Spectrum News

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio is getting ready to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins Thursday, Sept. 15. Also, Mexican Independence Day on Friday, Sept. 16.

There’s plenty to do in San Antonio. Here are a few events happening around you.

On Thursday, Sept. 15, the Mission Marquee Plaza will show a free screening of “La Bamba.” The venue will open at 7 p.m. and the screening will start 15 minutes after dusk.

The University of Texas at San Antonio has its own events, including a Mexican Independence Day celebration from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 16 at the ConTex office in the main building. Check here for more details.

The Avenida Guadalupe Association will host its 41st annual parade celebrating Mexican Independence Day on San Antonio’s Westside on Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. 

Market Square will kick off its El Grito weekend Sept. 17-18 with music on multiple stages, various vendors and plenty of activities for families.

The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio will conduct a onetime-only performance on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at Estancia Del Norte. 

Presented by the LULAC Council, the Diez y Seis Mariachi Festival will be held Sept. 24, from noon to 9 p.m., at the Arneson River Theatre. Admission is free.

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center at Trinity University will put on a dance event titled Dance Identity: A Symposium on Folklorico Dance in Chicano Communities. They will hold the symposium Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. featuring panels and performances. Admission is free.

To close off Hispanic Heritage Month, Fiesta Alegria, hosted by the Avenida Guadalupe Association, will occur on Oct. 15th from 9 p.m. to midnight. This is a virtual event.

Last, hosted by Sociedadd Cultural Hispanoamericana San Antonio Texas, The Fourth Hispanic Trails Cultural Festival will take place on Oct. 15, from noon to 8 p.m. at Wonderland of the Americas. Live music, dance and various types of historic Latin foods will be featured at this free family-friendly event.
