Chef Johnny Hernandez says the dishes at his first Tex-Mex concept reminds him of home, and locals as well as San Antonio visitors can expect to find that in his dishes at Super Bien. Hernandez, founder of La Gloria and Burgerteca, joined airport officials for the grand opening of Super Bien at the San Antonio International Airport on Tuesday, November 15.

Instead of a ribbon cutting, Super Bien commemorated its grand opening with a piñata.

Super Bien is the newest restaurant from Hernandez that offers up crispy taco bowls and street tacos with your choice of proteins ranging from chicken, carne guisada, or picadillo. People can also order crispy tacos or street tacos in traditional corn tortillas, or breakfast tacos if you’re catching an early flight. Those dishes can be paired with strawberry, lemonade, or mango agua frescas.

“I traveled through Mexico really seeking out Mexican traditions and where our foods in the earliest years came from and find those flavors and techniques,” Harnandez says. “Super Bien is a reflection of my childhood, growing up and the root of San Antonio.”

Super Bien is currently only available at the airport.

Currently, Super Bien can only be found inside the airport, which is just in time for the holiday travel rush. However, Hernandez says that locals can expect Super Bien streetside “soon” as he eyes two potential locations around San Antonio.

Super Bien is Hernandez’s third restaurant inside of the San Antonio airport, including La Gloria and Fruteria. Hernandez also just opened the Southside La Gloria location in September.
