MAJOR CLOSURE OF EASTBOUND I-10 FRONTAGE ROAD AT SH 46

As part of the ongoing IH-10 frontage road construction, the
contractor is progressing into the next stage of construction which will
require the complete closure of the Eastbound Frontage Road at the SH 46
(Bandera Rd) intersection, and a complete closure of Upper Balcones Road at the
Eastbound Frontage Road intersection.

This work is scheduled to start on Sunday
September 12, 2021 at 6:00 am, and will remain closed for approximately 6
weeks.

Once complete, this work will allow TxDOT’s
contractor to shift traffic onto the portion of the new bridge that has
been built so that the old SH 46 bridge can be demolished and the remainder of
the new 6 lane bridge and approach work can be completed. Estimated completion of the bridge is Spring 2022.

This closure will not affect the SH 46 through traffic
across the bridge, but during this closure there will be no through traffic
onto the Eastbound Frontage Road.

Johns Road will be the primary detour route for traffic
headed east on IH-10 toward San Antonio or to the Eastbound Frontage Road.

Eastbound Frontage Road local business access will be from
the SH 46 turnaround bridge off of the Westbound Frontage Road. *Chili’s
Restaurant will have access from SH 46.

SH 46 Traffic

  • SH 46 traffic going east on IH-10 towards San Antonio will use the Johns Road detour to enter IH-10
  • Eastbound Frontage Road traffic will use the Johns Road detour to get to the new Eastbound US 87 Exit ramp under SH 46 to access Grand Blvd., Menger Springs Road and the hospital.

Westbound IH-10 Traffic

  • Westbound IH-10 traffic will utilize the new SH 46 turnaround bridge to access Eastbound Frontage Road local business, Grand Blvd. and Menger Springs Road.

Upper Balcones Rd.

  • There will be no through traffic to the Eastbound Frontage Road but will be open to access the local business.

Note: Construction is subject to change and weather permitting.
