Man wielding gun shot in leg by officer at North Side apartment complex, SAPD Chief McManus says

SAN ANTONIO – An investigation is underway after a San Antonio police officer shot and wounded a man while answering a call at an apartment complex on the city’s North Side overnight.

The incident occurred just before midnight at an apartment complex in the 9800 block of Colonade Boulevard, not far from Interstate 10 and Wurzbach Road.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, officers had arrived at the apartment complex and saw a man jump out of a second story window from one of the buildings. That’s when, McManus said, as the officer approached the man he pulled out a gun and the officer shot the man in the leg.

The wounded man was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he’s expected to recover.

Police said before the shooting, the man had allegedly assaulted a woman which led to the 911 call. It’s unclear what the condition of the woman is.

McManus said the female officer that fired their weapon has been on patrol for less than a year and will now be placed on administrative duty, for the duration of the investigation.

Neither the man shot nor the officer, have been identified.

The San Antonio Police Department and EMS both responded to the call.
