Never miss another national food day in – mySA

If you were like me last Sunday, July 24, when the whole world knew it was National Tequila Day and went out celebrating appropriately, while you were at home completely oblivious, I share your pain. So, to keep that from happening again, here’s a little list of every nationally celebrated event for the rest of our week, along with some fun activities you can do in the city to celebrate accordingly.

I went to the official National Day Calendar website, so you can follow along at home if you would like and look up what next month has in store.

Wednesday, July 27: National Crème Brûlée Day

Today offers a slew of unique and interesting things to celebrate. While trying to find your choice of crème brulee in the Alamo City, you can also find time to celebrate Korean War Veterans, love, the state of New Jersey, and scotch. Yes, scotch. Since it’s only Wednesday, I recommend just going with the crème brulee and visiting Sweet Paris Crêperie & Café. It offers an apple cinnamon flavored crème brulee, torched with vanilla cream and caramelized apples, dulce de leche, and cinnamon. *Chef’s kiss*

Thursday, July 28: National Chili Dog Day

Plenty of contenders to choose from between National Waterpark Day and National Milk Chocolate Day, but a good ol’ fashion chili dog takes the cake. The Dogfather offers both cool aesthetic and awesome ‘dogs so they’re the obvious choice here.

Friday, July 29: National Lasagna Day

How do you talk about lasagna and not mention Garfield, am I right? Well jokes aside, the lasagna at Pompeii Italian Grill is no laughing matter. I mean, just take a look at that picture again.

A line of people patronizing Laika Cheesecake & Espresso forms on Monday to support military and humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Over the weekend, supporters formed long lines to show their support for the shop and for Ukrainians. Monday's lines were smaller but still had a steady stream of people waiting to get their cheesecake fix and make a donation.

Saturday, July 30: National Cheesecake Day

Shout out to all the Father-in-laws and much love toward the whistleblowers, I guess? But National Cheesecake Day is the choice here, and I’d recommend visiting Laika Cheesecake & Espresso. I’m an absolute glutton for a good cheesecake and a good cause and they definitely have both in abundance.

Sunday, July 31: National Avocado Day

I personally don’t like avocados, so I’ll lean on Yelp for guidance in this situation. With over 100 reviews and a 4.5 star rating, The Box Street Social looks to have just about everything we’re looking for here. A glow up from their popular food truck, Box St. offers many dishes with avocado’s as the main piece or side dish. I’m a simply man, so I’d go with the burrito or the avocado & toast.
