Nine major Connecticut companies that are hiring – mySA

Connecticut has added more than 39,000 jobs in the past year – with the 2,900 positions added in August representing the eighth-straight month of job gains in the state.

But hiring is a struggle for many businesses, as highlighted by the approximately 100,000 openings across Connecticut that were reported this week by the state Department of Labor. In response, the state has recently launched a number of workforce-development programs.

To shed further light on the job vacancies, Hearst Connecticut Media asked some of the largest corporate employers in the state about their hiring activity.

ASML

Current number of Connecticut-based employees: About 2,500

Hiring activity: More than 300 openings for Connecticut-based positions, with the largest number being in the company’s design-and-engineering sector.

ASML, which makes photolithography machines needed to manufacture microchips, plans to add about 1,000 positions during the next two years at its facility in Wilton, as it undertakes a $200 million expansion of the campus, which comprises its largest research-and-development and manufacturing site outside of its headquarters in the Netherlands. It plans to increase the number of manufacturing-focused jobs in Wilton from 1,000 to 1,450 and the design-and-engineering headcount from 1,100 to 1,600. It also plans to add about 50 supply-chain jobs.

Charter Communications

Hiring activity: The provider of Spectrum internet, cable and phone services is hiring for nearly 200 positions in Stamford, with more than half of those being in marketing and operations.

Last year, Charter opened a new two-building headquarters next to the downtown Stamford Metro-North Railroad station. The new headquarters was built to accommodate the significant growth in recent years of Charter, which was formerly headquartered in another building in downtown Stamford.

These roles support all of our business lines.”

Almost 300 of the openings support engineering and technology functions. Manufacturing is another area of focus, with openings for skilled labor and supervisory roles.

With $75 million in new subsidies from the state, Lockheed Martin has committing to keeping the Sikorsky headquarters in Connecticut until at least 2042.

Otis Worldwide
