A man was found motionless with his face down on the San Antonio River Walk early Monday morning, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The San Antonio Fire Department pulled the body out of the river when they made the scene.
The possible drowning occurred around 3:16 a.m. in the 100 block of North Riverwalk, near North St. Mary’s Street and Brooklyn Avenue. First responders were called to the scene after a passerby found the body floating inside the river. He called the authorities immediately, SAPD said.

When police and firefighters arrived, they found the body. The identification of the person who was found has not been released, but authorities confirmed it was the body of a man.
The San Antonio Fire Department pronounced the man dead on the scene after they pulled him out of the river. No signs of trauma were seen at the time, according to the Medical Examiner at the scene.
SAPD is investigating. It’s unclear how the man ended up in the water. No other information has been released at this time.

It is unusual for a drowning to occur on the River Walk. In San Antonio, it is illegal to swim on the River Walk. There is a city ordinance that doesn’t allow swimming in the San Antonio River. Swimmers who are caught can be fined up to $500.
