Family, friends, and the San Antonio community came together to remember and celebrate the life of renowned San Antonio businessman Red McCombs. His funeral was held on Monday, February 27 at the Tobin Center of Performing Arts in downtown.
Guests arrive at Red McCombs’ funeral service
The service, titled “A Celebration of a Life Well Lived” began at 10 a.m. Guests started arriving shortly before the service started. Some recognizable faces were in the crowd, including Spurs legends Avery Johnson and Bruce Bowen. Also in attendance was Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. News 4 San Antonio’s sportscaster Don Harris, also in the venue, welcomed Johnson, and Spurs Vice President of Communications Tom James. The University of Texas at Austin band also attended.
The service was private and not open to the public.
Last week, the Tobin Center was illuminated to honor the philanthropist and former San Antonio Spurs owner.
As MySA reported, McCombs died on February 19 at the age of 95. According to numerous reports online, the founder of Red McCombs Automotive Group died peacefully surrounded by his friends and family. McCombs is survived by his children, Marsha Shields, Connie McNab, Lynda McCombs., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
