San Antonio FC inched closer to securing the No. 1 seed in the USL Championship’s Western Conference, riding a goal from Victor “PC” Giro to a 1-0 win against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Tuesday at Toyota Field.

SAFC (21-5-4, 67 points) extended its lead atop the standings and will lock up the top spot in the playoff bracket with one point across the final four matches, or if San Diego Loyal (17-9-4, 55 points) posts any result other than a win the rest of the way.

San Antonio built a 13-11 lead in shots, a 6-2 margin in shots on target and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks, finding the lone breakthrough of the match in the 76th minute.

After a corner kick was played by an SAFC header in the middle of the penalty area, Mitchell Taintor hit a volley about 10 yards from goal that was played by a handball from Colorado Springs.

PC sent the ensuing penalty kick low and straight at the keeper, but the rebound bounced back to PC at the edge of the 6-yard box, and he rolled a shot into the left side of the net with the side of his foot.

SAFC returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, hosting Sacramento Republic FC.
