UPDATE: 9 a.m., Friday, March 10: A woman was arrested after neighbors reported threats and vandalism after they spoke out against the owners of the dogs responsible for the deadly February 24 attack that killed one man and injured a woman.

Destiny Marie Cardona, 26, was arrested Thursday, March 9 on a retaliation charge. Her bond was set at $25,000 and she was released Friday morning, March 10, according to Bexar County court records

A new report says that neighbors who witnessed February’s fatal dog attack on the Westside have reported threats and vandalism as retaliation after bringing attention to past issues with the dog owners that they say went unanswered. The San Antonio Police Department has opened multiple investigations into these allegations, local news station KSAT 12 reports.

Neighbors who live next to the dog owners in the 2800 block of Depla Street witnessed the three dogs maul a man to death and injure his wife on February 24. The owners of two of the dogs, Christian Moreno and Abilene Schnieder, were arrested and charged with counts of attack by dangerous dog that causes death and injury to elderly through criminal negligence.

One witness to the attack says that their life was threatened while they were standing on their property, KSAT reports. MySA reached out to SAPD for comment on the alleged threats and vandalism.

Lt. Michelle Ramos with SAPD told KSAT that retaliatory calls are taken seriously and could lead to felony charges.

“Our department will not tolerate allegations of retaliation. We take those calls very serious,” Ramos told KSAT. “We encourage the residents – please call us. We will fully investigate those cases.”

Neighbors told KSAT earlier this week that the neighborhood was peaceful until the dog owners moved into the home on Depla Street. San Antonio police have responded to over 100 calls at the home ranging from a report of shots fired to a call involving Child Protective Services. Chief William McManus and District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castillo have reportedly visited the neighbors to let them know that they are listening.
