Saving strategies for Memorial Day sales

The Memorial Day holiday weekend also offers super savings for shoppers. How to get the most mileage out of your money and the deals.

SAN ANTONIO — This weekend will bring some relief from inflation and prices with the sales.

“I know for a lot of consumers, even though inflation has slowed down, the reality is people are still struggling,” said Andrea Woroch, a smart saving expert. “Memorial Day will offer an opportunity to maybe buy those bigger ticket, more expensive items with some savings.”

Always shop around and price compare, but there are other ways to increase your savings.

Look for sales on big-ticket items like appliances, mattresses, and furniture. Save more by looking for 0% financing deals.

“It could be over the course of six months to a year,” Woroch said. “If you don’t have enough cash to pay for it upfront rather than using a credit card and then having to pay interest, take advantage of these financing deals because this could help you save a lot of money,” Woroch said.

Find deep discounts on winter clothing up to 80% off. Here is the trick to finding the right fit for when cold weather returns:

“For your children, I recommend sizing up,” Woroch said.

That way the clothing will be the correct size in several months when it is needed.

Spring apparel will see significant sales of 30% to 75% off. Save by extending those pieces into summer.

“Some of it can play double duty,” said Julie Ramhold, a consumer analyst for “If you find a really good sale on t-shirts because they’re spring items for whatever reason, then, obviously those are things you can wear during summer as well. It can be beneficial to still look at the Spring clearance.”

Next stack the savings to keep more money in your wallet.

“Take advantage of these sales but then make sure you are applying coupons and cash back,” Woroch said. “This triple stacking is going to offer maximum savings and then you can even use a cashback credit card on top of it to earn more back.”

Buy now or you will have to wait another three months for a deal.

“The discounts really aren’t going to be awesome until August at the earliest,” Ramhold said.

Wait to buy grills, electronics, outdoor furniture, and summer clothing including swimwear. has a list of the best Memorial Day sales.
