Angered Texans and gun safety advocates are taking to Twitter once again to air out their frustrations with Senator Ted Cruz. Perhaps not surprisingly, the politician has stayed firm in his commitment to keeping weapons in Texas, even after meeting with parents of one of the children killed in the Uvalde mass shooting earlier this year.

On Wednesday, September 14, Kimberly Mata-Rubio, who lost her daughter Lexi Rubio in the May 24 shooting, took to Twitter after she and her husband met with Cruz. She included a photo of the couple across from Cruz in his office, who is seen holding a cell phone while reclined in his chair and looking at the parents.

Mata-Rubio says her husband showed Cruz a photo of Lexi “in her child-size casket” as they asked the senator to support a federal ban on assault weapons. In addition to declining the parents’ request, Mata-Rubio says Cruz instead decided to back law enforcement being present at Texas schools.

In response to the tweet, plenty of Texas residents shared their own frustration with Cruz’s pledged allegiance to not enforce gun safety.

Many took note of Cruz’s body language seen in the photo from Mata-Rubio.

Current and hopeful Texas politicians also shared their disdain for Cruz’s choice to flat-out decline the request.

Others pointed out that Cruz’s response is unsurprising given his previous commitment to the NRA. Some also acknowledged that law enforcement at the scene did little during the Uvalde shooting, saying that Cruz’s alternative is not a solution.

Cruz has not responded to the online criticism at this time.
