Dear BMS Families,

The safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority. Earlier this morning before the start of the school day, a student was reported to be in possession of an antique-type firearm inside of the student’s backpack. Bandera Middle School Administration immediately went into action and took the student into their custody. Law Enforcement was notified, and a comprehensive investigation ensued.

Due to the vigilance, presence, and immediate response of the Bandera Middle School Administration, this matter was quickly and appropriately handled. After investigation, it has been determined that at no time was the firearm used to threaten students or staff. Bandera ISD is working in conjunction with law enforcement, and this matter is being handled as anextremely serious violation of the student code of conduct. No other threats have been found to exist on the campus, and the school day will continue as scheduled.

Bandera ISD is committed to always inform our parents and guardians on any matters related to student safety, and we thank you for your continued partnership in the education of our students.

If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact Bandera Middle School Principal, Mr. Patrick Sizemore, at 830-460-3899.

Respectfully,
Gary Bitzkie
Bandera Independent School District Superintendent
