Submit your questions for DA Joe Gonzales and Marc LaHood ahead of next week’s debate – San Antonio Report

There’s just one week to go until the San Antonio Report’s Sept. 21 debate between Democratic Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales and Republican challenger Marc LaHood.

The two candidates will face off in the town hall-style debate at 6 p.m. at San Antonio College’s 1,000-seat McAllister Fine Arts Center at 1300 San Pedro Ave.

You can register to attend the debate in person or view it via livestream. The debate will be moderated by the San Antonio Report’s government and politics reporter, Andrea Drusch.

Gonzales is finishing his first term and faces a challenge from LaHood, an attorney who is the brother of former District Attorney Nico LaHood, whom Gonzales defeated in the 2018 Democratic primary. So far during the campaign, Marc LaHood has been critical of Gonzales’ cite-and-release policy amid complaints about rising crime.

Gonzales says he’s been focusing his resources on stopping violent crime at a time when the isolation from the pandemic, growing political unrest across the country and increased gun ownership have caused it to spike.

poll conducted at the end of August for the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Bexar County ranked crime and safety as the top issues for Bexar County residents headed into the Nov. 8 midterm elections.
