Summer Camp restaurant brings good vibes to San Antonio – San Antonio Express-News

Winter may be coming, but that hasn’t stopped one new restaurant and bar from bringing fun-in-the-sun vibes to East Grayson Street near the Pearl.

Summer Camp currently serves a menu of burgers — very similar to the smashburger-style patties that earned a legion of followers at Bandit BBQ — hot dogs dressed Coney Island-style with mustard, chili and cheese and other sandwiches along with a lineup of playful cocktails with names such as Old Trailhead (a fancy Old Fashioned), Hot Pants Margarita (passion fruit, jalapeño and hibiscus salt show up here) and the Happy Camper (vodka, watermelon cordial and lime juice). Peterson plans to expand the menu with a chicken Parmesan sandwich, San Diego-style burrito loaded with french fries, a wedge salad and other options in the future.

“We really wanted it to be super approachable, kind of homey and a little nostalgic with a summer camp vibe that would bring people back to their childhood,” Peterson said.

Peterson and the Kneisleys have made significant renovations to the petite, roughly 1,200-square-foot building on Summer Camp’s property. The indoor space, which could previously seat about 10 people, has been expanded to a capacity of 36 in a space that feels polished and refined. The sprawling outdoor patio, which has room for more than 200 guests, includes a covered deck, an airy pergola over multiple picnic tables with heaters nearby and Adirondack chairs circled around fire pits. Peterson plans on upgrading the fans and mister system when the hotter months approach.
