Teen arrested for shooting man on Southeast Side street, records show

SAN ANTONIO – A teenager was arrested for shooting a man on a Southeast Side street last month because he was upset with his relative, records with the Bexar County Jail show.

Beto Hernandez, 18, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon from the incident that happened on Aug. 27 near Steves Avenue and Gevers Street, according to records.

San Antonio police said Hernandez followed a 46-year-old man from an H-E-B in the 4100 block of S. New Braunfels Ave. to the intersection.

Hernandez then shot the man several times, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The victim was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center for his injuries.

According to the affidavit, the victim knew Hernandez and was able to identify him to the police.

Police said Hernandez was upset with the victim’s relative because she was allegedly dating a new person. That relative used to be married to Hernandez’s family member, who died last year.

Hernandez was booked on Wednesday and also faces other charges from nonrelated incidents, such as evading arrest and vehicle theft, records show.
