A Texas bar has canceled its Disney-themed drag brunch planned for last weekend after receiving threats over social media. Denton’s Cool Beans Bar and Grill shared via social media that it’s canceling for the safety of its employees, performers, and customers.

“To those of you out there who have forced us to make this decision, shame on you,” bar management stated. “Shame on you for putting fear into us with your threats, your horrible DMs, your aggressive phone calls, and hateful comments. This is not a ‘win’ for you.”

Cool Beans has hosted similar events in the past but said it’s better to be safe than sorry with today’s climate. The bar said the cancelation is not out of agreement with those who are sending the threats, but out of fear for everyone at the bar.

Drag shows have become one of the latest culture wars in America. On August 27, a Texas drag brunch led to protesters and armed counterprotesters clashing outside the restaurant in Roanoke. A viral video of the heated exchange between the two groups showed anti-trans activists with signs suggesting the event “sexualized children.” The counterprotesters were seen dressed in riot gear and carrying guns.

In June, a similar protest occurred at a Dallas bar, Mr. Misster. Christian fascists who were protesting the LGBTQ+ event openly discussed wanting to take “all the rights away” from the LGBTQ+ community.

In July, about 100 activists lined a sidewalk outside of Hamburger Mary’s, an LGBTQ+-friendly restaurant, to stand against a handful of anti-transgender protesters from North Texas who traveled to Houston to protest the drag show at the establishment.
