A Texas mother who reportedly left behind two kids at their home last year was arrested by police three states away after law enforcement was tipped off to her location. Police in Mobile, Alabama arrested Raven Yates on Wednesday, March 8 and charged her with two counts of Abandon Endanger Child Without Intent to Return, reports Mobile station WPMI

Yates reportedly abandoned her 12-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son at their home in Roman Forest, north of Houston, in September 2022, Roman Forest police said in a Facebook post. Police say their father, who lives in California, didn’t know that Yates left her children until his daughter called asking for food in November 2022. He flew to Texas and reported Yates to the police.

Roman Forest police worked with U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force to locate Yates. Police said that Yates has been active on social media ever since news about her children broke. Her social media posts and a tip from the apartment manger led law enforcement to an apartment complex in Mobile.

She was discovered at the apartments with an unidentified man that police said was a “friend.” That friend cooperated with police and allowed them to enter the apartment to arrest Yates. Roman Forest police said Yates is still at the Mobile Police Department waiting to be transferred to Montgomery County, Texas, which is just outside Houston.
