A driver of a semi-truck was killed in a crash on Tuesday afternoon, September 20, after the large vehicle careened off an elevated Highway U.S. 75 in Allen. A dashcam video caught the fatal accident and shows how the truck veering off the highway onto the Frontage Road below before exploding into flames upon impact, according to Dallas station WFAA.

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and Stacy Road where a vehicle stopped at the traffic signals caught the 18-wheeler truck drive off the highway. Police in Allen said that the semi-truck collided with another vehicle on the highway that sent it careening off the overpass.

Police say that the driver, identified as Gustavo Gomez, 71, died. Gomez was a contracted driver for the United States Postal Service delivering letter and packages, which were scattered all over the road. The driver of the other vehicle that collided with 18-wheeler was not injured an was cooperating with police at the scene.

The City of Allen said that traffic was backed up and caused major delays in the area. TxDOT is investigating the crash and police are asking for people who witnessed the crash to call 214-509-4288 with information. 

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victim’s family and friends as they deal with their loss,” Allen police said in statement to WFAA.
