Warren High School teacher charged with improper relationship with educator / student

Stephanie Danielle Woods, 28, teaches biology at the Northside district high school.

SAN ANTONIO — A Northside ISD high school teacher has been arrested after police say she had an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to court documents.

Stephanie Woods, 28, is a biology teacher as well as a basketball and tennis coach at Warren High School.

A friend of the victim made the allegation to a therapist, who then reported it to police, according to arrest paperwork. The witness told the therapist that the 18-year-old victim is in an ongoing relationship with Woods.

The witness said that following her initial report, the victim sent her numerous text messages asking her to lie to CPS and try and get the case dropped to prevent Woods from being fired or arrested, according to the affidavit.

After the friend reported the improper relationship, police questioned the victim and searched her phone for evidence, with her permission.

Investigators found a photo that showed her inside the teacher’s home on the northwest side of town. When police questioned her further, she admitted having been in Woods’ home multiple times beginning last year, when she was just 17 years old.

The victim told her family that she had been staying with a friend, according to the affidavit.

Warren High School officials said Woods was placed on administrative leave last Friday, after the district learned of the allegations against Woods.

They sent a letter to parents:

Dear Warren/CCA parents,

I am writing this letter, in full transparency, to inform you of a serious matter impacting our campus. On May 5, a Warren HS staff member was placed on administrative leave when allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year old student were presented to district officials. Campus administration, Employee Relations, CPS, and law enforcement actively investigated the allegations. The staff member subsequently turned themself in to law enforcement on May 11 and is facing one charge of improper relationship between an educator and student.

This investigation is ongoing and campus and district officials are cooperating fully with the investigating agency. We have no reason to suspect any other Warren/CCA HS students are involved. Please understand that because this is an ongoing investigation, we are limited in what we can share, however we will work to keep you informed as much as possible.

I remind our community that any incidents regarding the safety of our school, students, or staff can be reported to the NISD Safeline at (210) 397-7233.

Thank you,

Melissa Hurst, Principal

Woods faces a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student and her bond is set at $50,000.
