Woman dies after being hit by vehicle while crossing street

SAN ANTONIO — A family is now going into the Memorial Day weekend without their loved one after a deadly crash on the south side.

The San Antonio Police Department said an elderly woman was crossing the street with a teenager when she was hit and killed by a car.

It happened on Pleasanton Road just after 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Authorities said the teenager was not hit by the car. The driver did stop and render aid. They reportedly told SAPD that they weren’t able to see the two crossing the street at the time.

When crews arrived, they found the woman had severe trauma. Despite efforts to save her, she passed away.

Police said the driver is not facing charges, but they are calling this a terrible accident.

The Texas Department of Transportation reports pedestrian deaths now account for one in five of all traffic fatalities. In 2021, there were 5,300 pedestrian-involved crashes, and 843 of them were fatal.
