BASTROP COUNTY, Texas — One adult and one child are dead following a bus rollover in Bastrop County Friday afternoon.

Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) said at around 2:50 p.m. that its medics were assisting with the rollover on West State Highway 21, near Caldwell Road and just southeast of Highway 130, in Bastrop County. That site is near the Mustang Ridge area.

Preliminary information indicates the crash was between a Hays CISD school bus and a concrete truck.

Hays CISD confirmed that a bus carrying Tom Green Elementary School pre-K students was involved in the crash. The students were returning from a field trip to the Bastrop Zoo. Forty-four students and 11 adults were on the bus.

KVUE has confirmed that 32 people have been transported from the scene to a hospital, including both adults and children. Some of the patients are not seriously injured, but at least two people have died, one adult and one child.

Hays CISD said the parents of students on the bus have been notified by Tom Green Elementary, and the district is in the process of reunification.

Hays CISD transportation staff, counselors, safety and security personnel and other administrators have joined first responders at the accident scene and at the reunification location.

All lanes in both directions of SH 21 at Caldwell Road are closed. Traffic will detour using FM 1854, SH 20 and FM 812, but drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
