The train derailed around 5 p.m. Wednesday in Pecos, and some train cars contained “hazardous material.”
PECOS, Texas — One person is dead and four people are injured after a train derailed and hit the Chamber of Commerce building in Pecos, according to Pecos City Manager Charles Lino during a press conference Wednesday night.
The derailment happened around 5 p.m. after a train struck a tractor trailer near Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street, according to Lino.
Lino said that “three cars” had hazardous material in them. However, everything is contained.
One person has been taken to a hospital in Odessa for treatment, three were treated on scene, according to Lino.
Traffic Information from Reeves County:
• Southbound Traffic on Highway 285 is being diverted to F Street and County Road 1216.
• Northbound Traffic on Highway 285 will experience closures on 3rd and 4th Streets.
