CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department, ESD2 and the United States Coast Guard responded to the scene of a deadly boating accident in Padre Island Monday afternoon.

Officials told 3NEWS it was a single boat accident. There were two individuals on the boat, one of which was confirmed dead.

Emergency crews responding to the incident gathered at the Marker 37 Marina following the accident.

Texas Game Wardens are the lead agency working on the incident.

Captain Benjamin Baker said much of the investigation is still in the preliminary stage, trying to figure out what led up to the accident and how it occurred.

“So we start our investigation as far as a boating accident report,” Baker said. “And we’re looking at all the safety aspects, making sure all the rules were followed.”

He said that it will take time to go through all of the evidence to officially determine the cause.

“Collecting witness statements, looking at the vessel, just putting all the pieces together and getting a good picture of what caused this accident,” Baker said.
