SAN ANTONIO — Zoogoers will see a new friendly face at the Naylor Savanna habitat within San Antonio Zoo.
The zoo announced the new arrival of ‘Kicheko,” a 14-month old male giraffe who will joining fellow herd members Waffles and Brayden. Guests will be able to get up close and personal with Kicheko at the Giraffe Feeding Experience.
Kicheko’s arrival is part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plan, a national effort to ensure long-term survival of threatened and endangered species through population management and conservation breeding.
Kicheko’s arrival marks the next chapter in our new giraffe breeding program plans,” Tim Morrow, President & CEO of San Antonio Zoo said. “He is a beautiful giraffe with very unique spots and is already enjoying his time with Brayden and Waffles exploring the Naylor Savanna.”
Kicheko’s name means “laughter” in Swahili, a fitting name since he was born on April Fool’s in 2024 at the Dallas Zoo. He is described as having an inquisitive and calm demeanor.
