HOUSTON — A beloved boba tea shop in southeast Houston is temporarily closed after a vehicle plowed through the storefront Monday morning.
The incident happened just before Boba Bird, located off Blackhawk Boulevard near the Sam Houston Parkway, was set to open.
Surveillance footage captured the moment the vehicle crashed into the shop, destroying the front counter, tables, and part of the back office.
Owner Peter Phan described the incident as “heartbreaking.”
“It’s my little shop, and I always dreamed of making it,” Phan said. “100% heartbroken and I want to cry, but I can’t cry.”
Fynnlan Ridge, an employee who was in the back of the store preparing for the day, said he and a coworker in the restroom were uninjured.
“I just peeked out, and then I just see a car and everything is wrecked,” Ridge said. “It just sucks. I love this place. I want this place to do well.”
The surveillance footage also showed the vehicle smashing into the back office — a space where Phan often works.
“It was definitely super, super scary,” Phan said.
Despite the destruction, Phan is determined to rebuild.
“I don’t try to stress about things I can’t control or fix,” he said. “All we can do is move on from this.”
The driver involved in the crash was reportedly uninjured. The cause of the incident remains unclear, and a police report has been filed.
Phan is working with his insurance company to assess the damage and plan for repairs.
