HONDO, Texas — The Hondo Police Department says more than 100 teeth were found buried in a residential yard.
On March 4, HPD responded to an unusual call where human teeth were discovered in a residential yard. Even though they hoped they weren’t real, after some careful digging, investigators discovered more than 100 real human teeth had indeed been buried.

Experts consulted a local dentist and reportedly confirmed the authenticity of the teeth and determined they were “extracted from living patients long ago.”
An investigation led officials to discover the previous homeowners were local dentists who practiced in Hondo 50-70 years ago.
Family members said it was a dental tradition, or folklore, to bury teeth for good luck when selling a home.
“While this case was more mysterious than menacing, rest assured, no crime was committed—just some old-school dental superstition at work,” HPD said.
