10th Street River Festival combines Fiesta and history in Military City USA

The 10th Street River Festival returns to the River Walk, offering free family-friendly fun with proceeds aiding veteran programs and more.

SAN ANTONIO — The 10th Street River Festival is returning to the Museum Reach of the River Walk for the second week of the party with a purpose.

The three-day festival is an official Fiesta event and is held each year at the VFW Post 76 on the River Walk. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. It includes live entertainment, dancing and food and drinks for purchase. It runs from Thursday, May 1, to Saturday, May 3.

The proceeds from this unique Fiesta go to benefit the VFW’s veteran programs, youth scholarships, recognition awards for local law enforcement and first responders and community events.

The VFW Post 76 is the oldest VFW post in Texas and was chartered in June 1917. The location is unique in that the post owns the historic Petty House along the Museum Reach of the River Walk and at the end of 10th Street downtown. The building and canteen are open to the public all year around. The post also provides live music performed by a DJ or band on the weekends.

Fiesta runs 11 days from Thursday, April 24 to Sunday, May 4 and includes over 100 different events benefiting nonprofit organizations in the San Antonio area. The “party with a purpose” has roots dating back to 1891 when the first Battle of Flowers parade took place. The parade, which is the cornerstone of Fiesta, happens each year on the second Friday of the 11-day event.  Learn more about Fiesta history here.
