JONES COUNTY, Ga. — A 13-year-old girl was struck and killed by a minivan in Jones County over the weekend, according to Jones County Coroner Matthew Jarratt.
Deputy Coroner Wayne Grier — who responded to the crash — says the accident happened at around 6:58 p.m. on Saturday in the 200 block of Eatonton Highway.
Grier says Rylee Baird, 13, was trying to cross the road when she was struck by the minivan, suffering traumatic injuries. The crash happened near Baird’s home in Gray, Grier said.
He says emergency personnel responded to the scene. They performed lifesaving measures such as CPR for 20 minutes before Baird would die from her injuries.
Grier says he pronounced Baird dead on the scene just before 7:30 p.m.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation into the crash, Grier said. We’re working to learn more on the investigation and whether any potential charges should be expected.
