HAYS COUNTY, Texas — The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a girl is dead after being shot by a 14-year-old boy.
Around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, HCSO responded to Canna Lily Circle in Driftwood after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies said they were able to determine that a 14-year-old boy had fired a weapon, striking a girl who resided in the same home.
The boy was taken to the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center as detectives investigate the case.
On Wednesday, medical examiners conducted an autopsy which ruled the death a homicide.
“The Hays County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family affected by this heartbreaking tragedy. We also wish to express our gratitude to all first responders who assisted at the scene,” HCSO said.
