A juvenile judge orders the teen to remain in detention while his case moves forward.
SAN ANTONIO — While one teen continues to recover from a knife attack Monday, another was in juvenile court Tuesday morning, accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The teen’s mom fought back tears, saying her son has never been in trouble before and he deserves to come home.
Juvenile Judge Jacqueline Valdes reviewed evidence before her and ruled there was enough evidence to move forward with charges against the 14-year-old.
Representatives from both the probation department and the District Attorney’s office recommended that the teen remain in custody.
The prosecutor told the judge “Given the egregious facts of this case we believe he is not allowing himself to be adequately supervised.”
The teen’s attorney asked for him to be released on a monitor, saying this is his first time in trouble, and his mom cried for leniency.
She told the judge several boys were chasing and attacking her little girl and the teen reacted to save his younger sister.
The mother said “As far as in trouble, nothing like that. It was self-defense. They were assaulting his sister.”
“He’s a good kid,” the mom continued.
The incident happened during the noon hour Monday near Walzem Road and Tadpole Bluff.
Investigators have not released specifics about the incident, or a condition update on the wounded teen, saying both the victim and the accused are juveniles.
The teen returns to court March 3 for another chance at release.
