FORT WORTH, Texas — A 15-year-old boy was killed and another person critically injured Friday afternoon following a stabbing in Fort Worth, police said.
According to a news release from Fort Worth PD, officers were dispatched about 3:44 p.m. to the 2700 block of East Rosedale Street in response to a reported stabbing. When they arrived, police said everyone involved had already left the scene.
Investigators later located one of the people involved, a juvenile who told officers they cut others in self-defense during a physical fight, police said.
Police said they learned one of the victims, a 15-year-old boy identified as Jacob De La Rosa, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Another victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Their current condition was not immediately released.
On Saturday, Jacob’s mother, Janet De La Rosa, stood outside the hospital where her son was pronounced dead, trying to make sense of what had happened the evening before.
“You all took him from me,” she cried. “You all have broken me.”
Janet believes the teen who fatally stabbed her son Friday afternoon was a classmate at Polytechnic High School, though police have not confirmed that yet.
According to the mother, the second victim in the stabbing, who was critically injured, is her husband, Albert De La Rosa. Janet said he had pulled up near the school to pick up Jacob and his older brother when a fight broke out among three teens.
Albert and Jacob were both stabbed. The older son helped load Jacob into the vehicle, and Albert, badly injured, drove to the hospital, Janet said.
“On the way here, they even crashed, but they kept going because his son was bleeding out,” Janet De La Rosa said.
Janet said that her husband was stabbed in the spleen and spent hours in surgery before waking up on Saturday. She said the trouble between her son and the other teens had been brewing for days.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the case. The Fort Worth Police Department said the findings will be forwarded to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for review.
