SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, a lifetime supervised release, must pay $94,000 to 14 victims, forfeit all devices and online accounts used to obtain or possess child exploitation material and pay a $100 special assessment to the Victim of Crimes Fund for obtaining and storing child sexual abuse materials.
Court documents show 42-year-old Ignacio Sanchez Mendoza had been using the dark web to obtain and possess child exploitation materials.
When investigators executed a search warrant of Mendoza’s home in San Antonio, they reportedly found devices containing “child sexual abuse materials.”
Mendoza had been convicted in 2004 for possessing child pornography in Bexar County, making his federal mandatory minimum sentence 15 years.
“Child sexual abuse material is not only harmful to the victims and dangerous to our society, but is often extremely addicting for some people,” said U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas. “People like the defendant who have a sexual interest in children often refuse to stop exploiting these children despite prior incarceration and treatment. That is why the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas prioritizes these crimes and those that prey on the most vulnerable in our society.
