SAN ANTONIO — A teenager was seriously injured when a vehicle hit her on the south side of San Antonio Tuesday morning.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the 400 block of East Villaret Boulevard near East Moursund Boulvard.
Police say that the 16-year-old girl was sitting on a skateboard that rolled out into the street, into the path of traffic, mid-block.
A woman traveling eastbound, driving into the sun, didn’t see the girl because she was so close to the ground. When she hit the girl she immediately stopped to help and the girl was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. She died at the hospital, according to police.
No charges are expected to be filed against the driver, who was visibly distraught.
Harlandale ISD confirmed the teen went to McCollum High School. The district released the following statement:
“We are saddened to confirm that a McCollum High School student passed away this morning following an off-campus incident. Our thoughts and condolences are with the student’s family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Grief counselors and support staff are available on campus, and we will continue to be here for our students and staff as we navigate this tragic loss.”
This is a developing story.
