18-year-old Kayaker killed after jet ski hit and ran on North Texas lake

A jet ski hit-and-run injured a kayaker on Grapevine Lake, and police are searching for a suspect.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — An 18-year-old woman killed Sunday evening after being struck by a jet ski in a hit-and-run incident while kayaking on Grapevine Lake has been identified, officials say.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., the Grapevine Fire Department responded to an emergency near Oak Grove Park. Initial reports indicated that a person had been kayaking when they were hit by a jet ski. 

The victim, 18-year-old Ava Moore was pulled ashore with significant trauma, and first responders began advanced life support measures, according to a statement from the department.

Moore was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine. According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the kayaker has died. 

Police say two women were on the jet ski that killed the victim. The operator of the jet ski reportedly fled the scene with an adult male. They reportedly struck a vehicle while leaving the area.

Grapevine FD said the person operating the jet ski fled the scene.

Texas Game Wardens are investigating the incident, according to the Grapevine Police Department. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
