19-year-old crashes car into garage and dies after he was shot in northwest Harris County, HCSO says

Deputies are investigating after a 19-year-old who was shot crashed into a garage in northwest Harris County.

HOUSTON — A man is dead after crashing into a parked vehicle and a garage at a house in northwest Harris County Friday evening. The family who was home at the time tried to help the victim.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in around 6:30 p.m. from a home on Pinechester Drive. A man driving a black Mazda crashed into a parked vehicle and then into the garage of a nearby home.

During the preliminary investigation, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the vehicle appeared to have multiple bullet holes, and the driver appeared to have at one gunshot wound.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The victim was 19 years old. His name was not immediately released.

The couple who lived at the home say they tried to help the shooting victim after his vehicle struck their home. He was conscious in the moments following the crash.

Neighbors told KHOU 11 they heard gunshots in the area and saw the crash happen.

“Typically, we hear gunshots, but not ever this close,” said Aretha Johnson, a neighbor.

Her partner, Johnny Johnson, said it easily could’ve been his car that the victim crashed into. He said he was backing out when the victim’s car sped by.

“I thought I ran over something,” he said. “I said, ‘Oh, I ran over something.'”

But what he actually heard was the victim’s car slamming into his neighbor’s parked SUV in the driveway and slamming into their garage door.

“From the gunshots to how quick he came down the street to the point of impact, I didn’t know the two were together right away,” Aretha Johnson said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed where the shooting may have occurred.

Crime Scene Investigators and Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate. No suspect information has been released at this time.
