“That’s any parent’s worst nightmare is to watch your son die right in front of you,” said Zhenia Williams, Dewitt Garry’s Mother.
SAN ANTONIO — It’s been 19 years since the body of Dewitt Garry was shot and dumped on the side of the road on the northeast side.
His mother, Zhenia Williams continue searching for justice.
Williams says the pain of losing a child never goes away, and the older you get the pain gets stronger. Now after 19 years, she is hoping someone will come forward with information that will give her some closure.
“He’d make you happy, he was that kid, you never saw him mad,” said Williams
Williams remembers happier times of her son Dewitt Garry. The 18-year-old Highlands High School student and athlete was one of five children.
“Dewitt was my baby,” said Williams
Just like all her children, she shared a special bond with Dewitt, but on June 20, 2005 that bond was broken. In the early morning hours, Dewitt came home from a party and she was still up.
“I was like, so I’m gonna go lay down. I went to lay down as I did I said, let me just… let me go back. When I went back he was getting in the car, and we never seen him again,” said Williams.
Hours later she tried to figure out where he was, calling family but no one had heard from him. The next time Williams would see Dewitt, he was in the hospital.
“That’s any parent’s worst nightmare, is to watch your son die right in front of you. It’s horrible,” said Williams.
Police say Dewitt was found with gunshot wounds on the side of the road, at the intersection of Lookout and Old O’Connor Roads. Police believe he was shot somewhere else, and dumped by his killer(s).
“I’m at peace now. Like I know where he is now, but It’s hard,” said Williams.
While Zhenia says she’s at peace, she would like some closure. She is hoping someone will come forward with information about Dewitt’s murder.
“I need closure, just say something. You don’t have to give your name, just you know I saw this,” said Williams.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. If you know anything about the murder of Dewitt Garry, your urged to contact San Antonio’s Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
