$1M lottery ticket sold in Central Texas

The ticket was sold to a Grand Prairie resident at a Central Texas gas station and convenience store.

BUDA, Texas — A $1 million lottery ticket was recently sold in Central Texas.

On Aug. 5, an anonymous winner purchased a “1,000,000 Crossword” ticket at the Starfield Market in Buda, located at 2335 Main St. The prizewinner is from Grand Prairie, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

This marks the final of six $1 million tickets sold through this particular game. Most recently, the previous winner purchased their ticket in Pasadena, Texas, on June 9. Other tickets were bought in Eagle Lake, Dallas, Wylie and El Paso.

Texas lottery courier controversy

The $1 million victory comes just several weeks after an agreement was filed for a Houston-area woman to receive her earnings from Lotto Texas.

The woman initially purchased her winning $83.5 million ticket in Austin through a third-party service called Jackpocket, eventually prompting a larger investigation into the state’s courier system.

The ticket was bought in February, and several months later, the winner sued the Texas Lottery Commission after she still had not received her payment.

On Aug. 2, a settlement was decided upon in the woman’s favor, and the commission was instructed to award her a payout of $45.8 million.
