2 dead after plane crashes in West Texas near San Angelo

A plane that left Florida on Thursday, December 14, reportedly crashed near its intended destination in West Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to MySA that both people on board died.

The FAA reports the single-engine Pilatus PC-12 crashed around noon on Thursday with two people on board. DPS says the plane was found on a private ranch in Tom Green County near Christoval, about 20 miles south of San Angelo, with the assistance of Customs and Border Patrol. 

Jacksonville’s First Coast News reports the plane was planning on landing at the San Angelo Airport, but “overshot the runway.” The pilot’s final transmission to air traffic control four minutes prior to the crash was reportedly, “We got a problem.” 

The identities of the deceased have not been made publicly available. The FAA and NTSB are continuing to investigate.

Thursday’s incident isn’t the only small plane crash to claim lives in Texas this year. A San Antonio-area family was killed over Thanksgiving weekend after a plane crashed near Mertzon, in West Texas. The parents and their elementary aged daughter were identified as Alyse Marie Sanchez, Jeremy Alan Sanchez, and their fifth-grade aged daughter Katrina Sanchez. 

On November 22, a plane crashed into a shopping center in Plano. The pilot was killed in the crash that hapepned less than a mile away from a single runway airport called Air Park-Dallas Airport. Video of the fiery wreckage made its rounds on social media. 

A New Braunfels woman was killed in a plane crash in Wisconsin in July. Thirty-year-old Devyn Reiley and family friend 20-year-old Zach Colliemoreno were killed when it descended from a height of 3,000 feet and crashed into Lake Winnebago. She was the daughter of two-time Super Bowl-winning offensive lineman Bruce Collie.
