2 detained after altercation in downtown San Antonio ends in gunfire, SAPD says

Police said two suspects, a 21-year-old woman and an unidentified man, were detained for questioning after a shooting downtown early Friday morning.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was grazed by gunfire early Friday after a woman allegedly fired multiple shots during an altercation downtown, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

SAPD said bike and park officers heard gunshots around 12:24 a.m. near South Alamo Street and East Nueva Street and responded to the area, where they found two suspects chasing four individuals.

Police said both suspects, a 21-year-old woman and an unidentified man, were detained for questioning.

According to SAPD, the victim told officers he was walking with a group when they overheard a heated argument between a man and a woman. Believing it may have been a domestic violence situation, the complainant attempted to intervene.

SAPD said the female suspect became aggressive and pulled out a handgun, firing several rounds into the ground. Police said the victim and his group fled as the suspect chased after them.

Investigators said a physical altercation then occurred between one of the suspects and the victim. SAPD said the female suspect fired additional rounds toward the group, with one bullet grazing the victim.

Police said the suspect threw the firearm as officers arrived. The weapon was later recovered.

The victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries, SAPD said.

The investigation remains active and police said information may change as detectives continue to work the case.
