
Police said two people were detained and one other suspect is still at large.
SAN ANTONIO — There was a large police presence near the St. Mary’s University campus on the city’s west-side where officials said two people were apprehended Wednesday afternoon.
San Antonio Police said the call came in around 2:46 p.m. when officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on the 3400 block of W Woodlawn Avenue.
Police said when the vehicle pulled over, the driver and front passenger took off on foot. A passenger in the back seat stayed inside the vehicle and was apprehended by police.
Officers observed observed the two suspects who fled were armed with handguns as they made their way toward the St. Mary’s University campus, according to SAPD.
A couple blocks away from the campus, police said the driver was located and detained. The front passenger who fled is still at large.
A handgun belonging to the wanted suspect was recovered by officers in the St. Mary’s University parking lot, according to SAPD, but the weapon belonging to the driver has not been located at this time.
Police said no shots were fired in the incident and no injuries were reported.
Police described the suspect who fled as a male in his late teens/early 20s with a slim build wearing a red jacket and white shoes. He faces evading charges when found.
St. Mary’s University issued the following statement notifying the community about the incident:
“Law enforcement, in cooperation with University Police, has apprehended individuals who came onto campus. You will continue to notice a heavier police presence in the area and on campus to ensure the safety of our community. Continue to remain alert until the situation is fully resolved.”
